Target Grant Helps 800 children

LynnTerra Ballet Company was honored to receive a grant in 2008 from the Target Corporation Community Grant Foundation. The grant money allowed us to bring local school children to the Opelika Performing Arts Center (OPAC) and expose them to ballet. On December 12, approximately 300 4th grade children from the Opelika School District and 500 3rd graders from the neighboring community of Auburn came to OPAC to watch select pieces of the 2nd Act performed.

The children heard a little bit of history about The Nutcracker, watched some of the solo performances like Chinese, Spanish and Arabian, and were allowed time to ask questions. Their favorite question was how long it took dancers to learn how to do a split!

To educate children about the arts is a desire of the LynnTerra Ballet Company. Being a non-profit company, we’re especially mindful of how we allocate our finances to various programs. We believe educating in the arts is vital to children and LynnTerra Ballet is very thankful for the opportunity Target gave us to share a performing art by talented dancers to schoolchildren that may not be otherwise exposed to ballet as an artform

Nutcracker and Scouts!

For the first time, LynnTerra Ballet sponsored a Girl Scout night for The Nutcracker. Troops registered in advance to attend the dress rehearsal of The Nutcracker, which was the night before the first public performance. These scouts watched the entire performance and were awarded a participation badge after their attendance. Troops participated from Montgomery, Tuskegee, Eclectic, Auburn and Opelika.
